Can I have show of handsof those who’ve picked out the wrong shade of foundation more than once?

I’ve gotta admitI’ve done it loads of times! It took me a while to get comfy in my own foundation zonebut when I got there, it was like I’d finally hit the jackpot! How did I not think of this before?!– I kept asking myself over and over again.

Well, if you’ve been in the wrong foundation boat like me, you know it’s not a pretty place. Once thing I realized- you don’t have to be a make-up artist to get there! Wanna get a picture perfect pretty face in a few minutes? Here are some of my oh-so-simple foundation tips to help you get started.

The Elusive Foundation: Getting It Right

If You Got the Shade, You Have It Made

Getting the perfect shade of foundation to match your skin tone is the most important step. Once you get this right, the rest will come easy. The simplest way to find out if a hue matches your skin tone is to test it in natural light and on the jawline. Pick a foundation color that blends well into your skin when applied. Drugstore shoppers, try sampling some shades at department store make-up counters before you pick a color.

Oily, Dry or Combination- Know the Skin You’re In

Pick foundation that fits your skin type. For oily skin, choose an oil-free foundation that won’t easily block pores. If your skin is dry, make sure the foundation you pick hydrates and moisturizes your skin. I got combination skin so choosing the right kinda foundation was never easy till I laid my eyes on ELF Studio’s HD Mattifying Cream Foundation. It’s oil-free and lightweight and just perfect for my skin. In fact, they have their own set of tips to get the perfect foundation (check it out!). I’m glad I’ve left my T-zone troubles all behind me!

Tinted Moisturizer versus Foundation- What’s Your Pick?

Need minimal coverage? A tinted moisturizer is your best bet. The sheer effect that it gives with a hint of color helps even out your skin. Go for foundation only if you need a more ‘finished’ look. Its opaque effect gives maximum coverage and is best suited for concealing acne scars or pigmentation.

It’s Perfect Chemistry with the Right Formula

Perfect skin doesn’t have to be a dream! Cream, liquid, powder, stick or firming- choose which type of foundation format makes you tick. Figuring out your skin type first will help you decide on the right formula. For example, if you have oily skin, a matte-finish foundation stick can work wonders. For cream and liquid formula, use your fingers to blend in the foundation. A brush works better when it’s in a powder format.

Goodbye, Streaky Foundation!

Even out your skin by exfoliating it well and putting an oil-free primer before you apply foundation. Tap the foundation and gently blend it in a circular motion with a moist make-up sponge so that no streaky lines remain. Spot some streakiness on your chin or neck? Dab on a little moisturizing cream on these areas to even it out.

Follow these tips and see the right kinda foundation transform the way you look. For skin that’s glowing and blemish-free, get your foundation act together.  It won’t be long before you look in the mirror and say hello to flawless skin!
