Opaque Projectors
This is one of the most ancestral type of projectors, in which an opaque object like text paper is placed onto its light emitting platform and image of the entire page is projected on the screen. Slide Projectors
Slide projectors use 35mm slides to project images on the screen. After their introduction in 1950’s, Kodak became one of the leading manufacturer of these projectors. They completely discontinued its production in October 2004, but some companies still offer it.
Overhead Projectors
Similar to a slide projector, they utilize a flexible transparent sheet called transparency. An overhead projector has an advantage over the slide projector, that the projected images can be edited in realtime as you can easily write on the sheets and add text and draw sketches. They are still widely used around the world.
Digital Projection Panels
As the name indicates, it consists of a digital projection panel, which is directly connected to the computer to project digital form of data including photos, videos and other presentation documents. This was the technology that paved way to multimedia projectors. They came to the scene in late 1980s and are still available, but they are not a preferable item.
Computer Projectors
When the features of an overhead projector and a digital projection panel were combined, computer projector came into being. Also called data projectors, they hit the shelves in early 1990s. They are currently being used in offices, classrooms, training centers etc.
Video Projectors
Introduced in early 1990s, these are what we see being used in private home theaters. They transmit high definition footage from TV, computer or any multimedia dvd player.
